More than 50 years ago, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare into law. For 54 million Americans, Medicare means knowing they’ll have access to the care they need.

But a faction of the GOP is recklessly attacking this critical program and threatening to pull the rug out from under our seniors by privatizing Medicare and slashing benefits. I’m committed to ensuring Medicare is still strong another 50 years from now, and I need you on my side.

The extreme Republicans who want to privatize Medicare or turn it into a voucher system must have forgotten that before Medicare was enacted, 35% of seniors lived in poverty, and nearly half had no insurance.

We can’t roll back the remarkable progress we’ve made in ensuring our seniors and their families have the care they need. It’s time to stop the attacks on Medicare and start working together to ensure the program is on strong footing for the future.
